Full Description
A really fine and beautiful walnut lowboy, Queen Anne period and dating from c. 1710
With solid walnut elegant cabriole legs to rear and front terminating in puddled pad feet, the front legs with scallop shells carved to the knees. With two short over one long drawer all with original well shaped and hand cast brasses – the handles have really great patina, and softened rolled edges from centuries of use.
Also retaining the original iron lock. The drawers with their original full oak linings and in good, robust and clean condition. The top is quarter matched in beautifully figured thickly cut walnut with a wide crossbanded border.
The whole lowboy has developed a really glorious patination and a rich warm ripe melon colour that only 300 years of use, wax and care can produce.
Lovely serpentine shaped aprons to front and side, solid and robust. Original back board. Some old worm holes - long since dead, small repairs and restorations consistent with age and use.
A very good lowboy of attractive proportions, completely usable and very beautiful.
