Full Description
A very good quality small George II chest of drawers dating from c. 1750 retaining the original handles and escutcheons.

The walnut has developed an excellent colour and there are checkerboard ebony and satinwood strung borders to the top and drawer fronts, locks original and present throughout, the oversailing top with a deeply crossbanded border and book-matched darkly grained walnut veneers which form a diamond.

A tiny bit of old shrinkage to some of these veneers but these are flat, stable and this movement occurred in the first few decades of its life and will not shrink further. The veneers are original and thickly cut with beautiful figuring.

A few small marks and dings (but very few for a piece of this age) and a couple of very old crush marks to the plinth from perhaps someone once standing on this - so long ago that these have a developed patina. Original backboards, original bracket feet. Oak lined, heavy, well made and extremely solid and usable.

A very pretty and desirably small early Georgian walnut chest with original brasses and a beautiful colour in very original condition. From a private house and well cared for all of its life.
