Full Description
A rare and beautiful Chinese Chippendale chair of elegant proportions, with original blind fretwork carved legs to front and sides and beautiful swept sabre legs to the back. Upholstered in a pure silk Gainsborough fabric of excellent quality and in very good condition with no marks or wear.
The chair has a high serpentine shaped back and a serpentine shape to the seat rail, mirrored by the feather filled squab cushion (which is fully upholstered on both sides and reversible).
Minor dings and small losses but in exceptionally fine condition for age. Original frame throughout including original (visible) pine seat rails with some old worm and small restorations. Spandrels appear original also. The frame is tight with no loose joints.
Made by a most skillful hand with particularly well executed fretwork carving.
A superb chair in the manner of Thomas Chippendale and dating from c. 1765.
